It is our strong belief that the highest incidence of origins for P.T.S.D. come from Domestic violence in the home in the general population. We have followed the work of Erin Prizzy, who was the founder of the womens refuge organisation. I am currently writing a book based on the early work that she carried out at the first refuge in southwark in London. I personally have come across the high incident rate among young people, with whom I have worked with in the Youth Justice System. It has been recorded that domestic violence is responsible for a high rate of anti- social behaviour, in our society and also as a key factor in young people people turning to drugs and alcohol as a means to escape their problems in the home. Erin Prizzy in her book Prone to violence had recorded the many problems that she saw with very young children who had witnessed murders and very severe beatings of their mothers.
They had learnt the lesson that it was ok to use violence to resolve their problems and so carried these actions out into society and so ended up in the youth justice system.There has been a very high increase in the amount of violent attacks carried out by young girls over the last 5 years at a much faster rate than boys.

I am in the process of completing my new book on domestic violence and I would welcome any personal stories that could illustrate the wide range of domestic violence in its many forms both pyhsical and also mental abuse. Any stories would be subject to the normal rules about confidentiality and would not identify the person involved.
